[Isamu's dead. If Isamu goes back home, he's dead. That's it-- it's all over for him. He'll never be able to live on in Ephinea, and Richard will never see him again. Now that Luceti has seen fit to drive home just how ephemeral their time here is, that thought terrifies Richard beyond all else because it suddenly seems that much more of a real possibility. But the fact that he doesn't want it to happen because he doesn't want to lose Isamu just makes him feel horrible and selfish; he should be thinking about Isamu, not about himself. Isamu is the one who is going to die, so why can't he stop thinking about how it would make him feel?
